- A UK citizen or an Irish citizen born in Northern Ireland*
- Aged 18 or over or will be by 31 December 2025
If you do not meet all three of the criteria, you should not apply.
*You will need a UK passport, or other proof that you are a UK citizen.
Please note, we do not usually give Fellowships for:
- A project that will be done by more than one person or by a team
- A project that has other funders
- A project that is a part of your academic studies (including medical electives)
- Artists' residencies and exhibitions
- Research for writing fiction
- Volunteering
We want people with different jobs, experiences, and of different ages to apply.
You do not need to have any special qualifications or be a leader in what you want to learn about. But you must care a lot about a new idea that can make a difference to your community or the work you do in the UK.
Your idea must need information that can only be learned from other countries. This learning can happen by travelling to a different country, or online from the UK, or a mix of both.
How to apply
You can only apply once each year. If you do not get a Fellowship this year, you can apply again in future years.
Please read How to Apply for advice and support before you start.
This is the first stage of our application process. We will email to let you know if you have been longlisted by mid-December 2025.
We will decide who has got through the second stage and is shortlisted by early February 2026. This is when we will ask for more detailed information and a budget.
